Robert
Business Leader
Global Network Services

Right Place, Right Time
More than two decades ago, Robert found himself drawn to Visa because of the company’s commitment to technology. A chance meeting with a Visa employee led to a conversation about the Series 1 communications platform – a technology Visa was using to spur further achievement in electronic payments.
“I didn’t know much about Visa at the time,” Robert recalls, “but in 15 minutes I was hooked. The employee explained how widely they were using the Series 1 platform and asked me if I might consider working for Visa. Right then, I knew I wanted to be part of it.”
Robert began in network operations and quickly moved into Point of Sale development. From there he transitioned to an engineering role. Today, he is in Global IP deployment and support management. “I completed a lot of technical training and certifications through Visa — both internally and externally — to get where I am now. I also took advantage of interpersonal development opportunities, which have definitely helped me further my collaboration skills.”
He still recalls a workshop that shared strategies for effectively transitioning technology, people and processes to the global marketplace. “I’ve been able to apply some of the exercises from that workshop to my everyday life.”
Inspired by Vision
What drew him to Visa originally, aside from the Visa employee who first made him aware of the opportunities, was the company’s brand and vision. “Once upon a time Visa was a paper-based company. But it had the foresight to recognize how that would all change. I wanted to be in on the ground floor of the electronic payments industry, and I just knew Visa was the place for that.”
Robert stays at the company because he feels he has been a part of making the Visa brand what it is today. “Plus, there’s an excitement that comes with the work. The projects take off and have lives of their own.”
As he tells his friends, “I develop many of the ecommerce products and technologies that you use. It’s just a tremendous place to work even after 25 years.”
